Bound Book Scanning Services
Bound Book Scanning Service in San Francisco Bay Area, California
Anyone who has ever tried to scan a book knows that the binding, or the spine, of the book poses a great challenge. The structure of the book makes it difficult to fully capture all of the text. At eRecordsUSA, you will find a wide variety of professional bound book scanning services.
What is Bound Book Scanning And Its Types?
Bound Book Scanning allows you to scan books and convert them into e- formats. The digital file cleans up storage space and makes the books accessible on your PC or laptop. The digital copies are sharable in easy-to-read formats.
The scanning of bound books can be done in two ways: Destructive Book Scanning and Non-Destructive Book Scanning. The new method is Non Destructive book scanning in which without removing the spine of the book, you can scan the entire book while maintaining the original format. However, choosing the scanning type is your personal decision. We at eRecordsUSA offer both types.
Destructive Bound Book Scanning Services
Destructive bound book scanning services may sound scary, but it simply means that, during the scanning process, the spine is carefully removed. Many of our clients choose this option because it allows for the highest quality scans and these services are available at rates as low as $0.08 per page
Non-Destructive Bound Book Digitizing Solutions
In some cases, clients come to us with older, out of print books that they are interested in re-publishing, preserving and making more accessible. In this situation, it is often important to the client that the print version of the book is returned in its original condition. This is certainly not a problem. We do offer non-destructive book scanning services. In this event, the book is unchanged throughout the digitization process. Our prices for non-destructive book scanning services start as low as $0.15 per page.
Factors to Consider While Digitizing Bound Books To PDF
Hardbound books are difficult to scan especially if they are old and fragile. They require careful handling. Consider the following factors while you start the scanning process;
Budget and Deadlines - Setting a budget and deadline to complete the scanning process is important especially if you have a huge quantity of bound books to scan. In addition, labor and processing costs, transportation costs, and the number of books to scan will be the criteria to set the time and cost to digitize. Transportation cost is an added expenditure that you can save by hiring a scanning and digitizing company nearby.
Collection Condition - With old books, there are multiple issues like the cracked or aging spine, damaged images, and poor or faded paper quality. Bound material should be evaluated on these parameters before the scanning method is adopted to procure the original copy. The bindings such as stitched spines, three-ring binders, glued spines should be treated with specific consideration depending on the end requirement of the client.
Scanning Method.- For bound book scanning, we prefer to use an overhead book scanner with a high-quality linear camera and a high-end lighting system. The ideal scanner which experts suggest for bounded books have:
--The books having a height of up to 3-4 inches can be efficiently scanned using a non-destructive scanner without removing a spine.
--The bounded textbook scanner must have a resolution of at least 300dpi. This has to be an optical resolution, not interpolated. A resolution of 600dpi is an advantage.
--You will need a scanner with a high-end lighting system. This allows for even illumination of each scan for a better output.
--A hinged and V-shaped cradle scanner can reduce or eliminate spine stress on bound materials by keeping materials at an angle of 90-140 degrees or more while scanning.
Storage Resources.- The storage format can be decided. Sometimes, the final soft copies need to be edited to improve the readability and quality. So, depending on the collection, we suggest the appropriate method. The final copies can be stored in .docs, pdf, JPEG, Kindle, and MP3 book format.
How to scan a book without damaging it?

-- Scan with a high-quality scanner without stretching binding.

eRecordsUsa recently scanned 4 valuable 9x12 highly classified lab notebooks for Cloud9. The quality of the scans were amazing considering that the notes were written by hand and drawn in pencil 8 to 10 years ago. It is much easier now to read the scanned documents then the originals. Special care was also taken to replace and dismantle the original bindings and stapled on papers with the lab notebooks returned to us in perfect condition. I recommend eRecordsUsa services for quality of work, fas...

As a member of the Sequoia Audubon Society of San Mateo County, we asked eRecords USA to scan old newsletters into PDF searchable files. They successfully scanned 2,853 pages representing 421 files. The newsletters were scanned in B&W at 400 dpi. Prior to beginning the project, eRecords USA provided us with a written estimate. They initially estimated the project to take 4-6 weeks but the project was completed in just 2 weeks. During my initial meeting with eRecords USA, Sharma took the time to ...

I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of service I received from eRecordsUSA . I had a bound volume of my grandfather\'s memoirs in handwritten Yiddish that had to be scanned. The pages were non-standard size and each page had been written in a different intensity of ink, so the pages had to be individually scanned.eRecordsUSA met with me in person, immediately understood my needs - and my concerns - and turned the project around in record time and on a highly professional level, exceedin...

I had three, thick books scanned by these folks and was impressed with the attentive customer service, the turn-around time, the quality and the price was extremely competitive! I had scanned three textbooks my father wrote and were out of print by the publisher and thought it would be nice to preserve his works electronically for other generations of food scientists to use. Highly recommend them for any of your scanning needs and definitely recommend them to anyone with scanning needs
I must commend the services of eRecordsUSA.com for the superior scanning job they did for me. My job was to scan 16 huge binders of photos and documents for a theater. This was an unusual scanning request which required a lot of individual attention to each item that was scanned, and the order of the items was important to be preserved. I was very satisfied with the job that was delivered and the turnaround of the job. Not only was the final scanning of excellent quality, but the return...
