Large Format Document & Blueprint Scanning

Blueprint and map scanning is the process of digitizing physical blueprints and maps into a digital format. This allows you to easily store, organize, and share large-format documents.

One common use of blueprint and map scanning is in the construction and engineering industries, where blueprints and maps are frequently used to plan and execute projects. By digitizing these documents, it is easier for team members to access and review the plans, and to make any necessary updates or changes.

A few typical examples of a large format document would include:

    • Architectural Blueprints
    • Engineering diagrams/drawings
    • Large non-standard book pages
    • Newspaper sheets
    • Maps
    • Schematics

    Blueprint Scanning Methods

Several different methods can be used to scan blueprints and maps, including flatbed scanners, drum scanners, and specialized large-format scanners. The choice of scanner will depend on the size and resolution of the documents being scanned, as well as the intended use of the digitized versions.

In addition to digitizing the documents, blueprint, and maps scanning services may also include cleaning and restoration of the original documents, as well as color correction and other image editing services to ensure that the digitized versions are of high quality.

Overall, blueprint and map scanning is a useful tool for anyone who needs to access and share physical blueprints and maps regularly and can help streamline the process of working with these documents.

    How Does Blueprint Scanning Work?

Blueprint scanning is a process that involves digitizing physical blueprints or architectural plans into digital format.

THE PROCESS BEGINSΒ by obtaining the physical blueprints and preparing them for scanning. This may involve cleaning and flattening the documents to ensure the best possible scan quality.

NEXT, the blueprints are scanned using specialized equipment, such as high-resolution scanners or even 3D scanners for more complex projects. The scanned images are then processed and edited to ensure accuracy and clarity.

ONCE THE MAPS OR BLUEPRINT SCANS ARE COMPLETE, they are saved in a digital format, such as PDF or CAD, and can be easily accessed and shared via computer or the cloud.

Blueprint scanning has numerous benefits, including the ability to make edits and annotations to the digital blueprints. Overall, blueprint scanning streamlines the architectural design process and allows for more efficient and effective communication and collaboration.

For high-quality large-format blueprint scanning, hiring a document scanning service would be the best choice.
Since the large format scanning has certain special considerations as they are bigger than the standard document size (8.5β€³ x 14β€³), they can be scanned using special scanners.

    Blueprint Scanning Benefits

Blueprint scanning offers several benefits to individuals and businesses alike

Improved Efficiency: By digitizing your blueprints, you can easily access them from any device with an internet connection. This means you won’t have to waste time searching through physical files or drawers to find the blueprint you need.

Enhanced Collaboration: With digital blueprints, multiple team members can access and edit the same document at the same time. This makes it easier to collaborate on projects and ensures that everyone is working from the most up-to-date version of the blueprint.

Reduced Storage Space: Physical blueprints can take up a lot of space, especially if you have maps or large documents. By scanning and storing your blueprints digitally, you can save space in your office or workshop.

Increased Durability: Digital copies of blueprints are less likely to become damaged or lost compared to physical copies. This means you can rely on them for longer periods, reducing the need for costly reprinting.

Improved Accuracy: With blueprint scanning, you can easily make adjustments and updates to your blueprints without having to redraw them from scratch. This helps to ensure that your projects are completed accurately and to your specifications.

      •   I contacted eRecords for a small-scale scanning job. Although they usually work on large projects, Pankaj was more than willing to help with what I was looking for! The scans that came back were high quality, and delivered in a timely matter. eRecords was also the business that quoted me the most competitive price. I would definitely recommend - Pankaj is knowledgable and a great collaborator to work with on meeting any scanning service you may need.

      •   I have used eRecordsUSA on three separate occasions and each job was performed exceptionally. All files scanned at high resolution, organized, and returned in a timely manner. Pricing was also very reasonable for such time-intensive work. Management was also very good with their communication.

I am a digital nomad that owns zero paper, so having all of my files in Google Drive is imperative. With Google's OCR (Optical Coherence Recognition) I can now find my files at lightning speed. ie - I search for [deed], [roof repair], [assessment], etc. and all relevant files "automagically" appear.

      •   Erecords scanned 56 bankers boxes of legal case files and other professional documents for me. This was a particularly difficult and complex job because, in naming files, they had to work from both a written file inventory and the file names on the folders themselves and use a consistent file naming protocol that Erecords and I agreed upon. They did an outstanding job of following this file naming protocol and organizing the documents in digital form to create the file structure that I intended. This job was also difficult because of the variety of page sizes and the age and condition of some of the documents; they managed to accurately capture everything. They also made the job easier for me by picking the documents up at my home. Pankaj at E records was invariably courteous and helpful and spent the time needed with me before the job to develop a digital file structure to make the documents most useful. I highly recommend Erecords for document scanning.

      •   I chose eRecords to scan over 2000 pages of yearbooks and several hundred photos from the early 90's to early 00's. I was not disappointed. They were one of the few locations in the Bay Area that I contacted that let me drop off and pickup the material in person. The JPG and PDF scans that they sent me were extremely high quality and OCR'd the yearbooks so I can search for text. They were able to repair one of my yearbook's bindings to the point where I couldn't even find the repair! This place is professional and good value for what I received. If something ever happened to my irreplaceable yearbooks and photos I know they're digitized now and backed up to multiple locations on my network and cloud! Highly recommended, Pankaj and eRecords!

      •   I found eRecordsUSA on an internet search and contacted them to inquire about scanning to PDFs a set of some six hundred old, faded, tattered pages of an underground/community newspaper I co-founded fifty years ago. Β I lucked out on this first call, finding a most professional, efficient, accessible, top notch company to help me archive my newspaper despite these trying, pandemic times.
